Happy 42nd birthday to me

Since I’m in Vegas, one of my favorite cities because it’s relaxing, awesome and a weird microcosm of the Western Empire, I will be a bit more incommunicado to celebrate why July 29 is all about me. Bear with me on this WP for the iPhone too. I hate typing through the tiny display.

We also had a rather eventful Wednesday with the Liberace Museum, The Pinball Hall of Fame (definitely making another visit), seeing the new CityCenter (another overpriced mall like Wynn’s and Caesar’s Palace’s) and discovering that Planet Hollywood is now a Harrah’s property, if Clear Channel’s dirty fingers were removed then I’m happy but I wish it were the Aladdin again.

Anyway, it’s going to be bit before anything substantial gets posted. There’s free WiFi at the nearby Dennys yet it forces a reauthorization every 10 minutes. Our timeshare finally has a solution but we still have pay for it and it’s Clear via a USB dongle.

Thanks for all the cards, e-mails and happy thoughts in advance. By the time this posts, we should be in queue for breakfast at Paris.

    Greetings Professor!

Glad to hear that you are celebrating your 42nd, and in Sin City of all places. I was tempted to go with the typical 42-Douglas Adams reference but I’ll pass on that and go for the slightly less obvious provision of a random smattering of 42 trivia (particularly as the only other 42-related quote referred to it as nice and the kind of number you could bring home to meet the family).

As such, here goes, starting with the particularly relevant…

    1. 42 is the total number of pips on two six sided dice (use this knowledge wisely…go gamble).

    2. 42 is also the number of gallons in a barrel of oil (who says I can’t be topical at the same time).

    3. 42 is the number of laws to the game of cricket (I did say random).

    4. 42 is the ASCII code for the asterisk or wildcard character used by computer programmers which, depending on the particular programming command can mean “anything” or “everything”.

    5. 42 was Jackie Robinson’s jersey number, the only number retired by all Major League Baseball teams.

    6. 42 is the number of illustrations is Alice in Wonderland

    AND

    7. 42 is the number of times that my good friend, Steve, has circled the Sun.

Nicely done! Have a great time in the desert!

  28. Sarah says:

    happy birthday!!! 😀

  31. John P says:

    Happy Birthday Steve!

(sorry for the lateness). Hope Vegas was all and more than you expected. At least, that’s what I’ve heard about it.
