RIP: Masaya Nakamura & John Wetton

A sad double whammy against two people who were a staple of my life in 1982, especially how awesome that Summer was.

First up is Mr. Nakamura, the person behind Pac Man and its parent company Namco. The sequel Ms. Pac Man was what I got hooked on at Aladdin’s Castle because the ghosts didn’t follow a pattern, thus it was an easier game. To this day, I remain the champion in my immediate family with a paltry 52,000.

Next was Mr. Wetton, the lead singer/bassist of Asia. I know he was in other bands but I was 13 when Asia’s debut album appeared. His vocals are synonymous with the time I was graduating from St. Agnes via “Only Time Will Tell” and “Heat of the Moment.” It’s a bummer, Asia never really duplicated its success afterwards.

Thanks gentlemen, you made 1982 memorable and mostly enjoyable in the face of leaving the Midwest to resettle in “alien” Houston.
