Light bulb experiment at Chez Maggi

LEDbulbWhat started as a quick trip to Ikea for $10 worth of recycling bins and hooks to hang stuff in the kitchen morphed into a $100+ shopping spree because there were so many good ideas there. Cursed Swedes, them and their more-effective state proving that American Exceptionalism is utter crap.

The above lightbulb is LED-based. It uses even less energy than those fluorescent bulbs you can find everywhere to replace incandescent. At Ikea, they cost over $12 each but allegedly they consume less juice. If the label is accurate, $1.02/year. I’m curious as to which rates those estimates are based upon.

I scored a quartet. Installed them in our bedroom’s overhead lamp/ceiling fan. The whiteness is noticeably different and better. The fluorescents always have a yellowish tinge I can’t shake in the back of my mind. The real test will be our Summer electric bills. Will these make a dent as the AC cranks just to keep the house 84F while were at work.

Fear not, I may try to be more enviro-conscious but I don’t have a lingering cloud of smug following me nor do I enjoy the smell of my own farts. Saving money in the long run is a non-partisan value, the argument comes through the means.
