Yesterday when I arrived home from work, there was a package at the door. My annual order of $100-worth of T-shirts from American Apparel! When I stumbled upon these guys back in 2003 through Mother Jones or one of those Lefty magazines (wait, it was The American Prospect).
They’re really well made and cost about the same amount as Old Navy and most likely less than The Gap.
Well, I was wrong, they’re about the same or a tad more than the Gap but who cares. The important thing about AA is that the shirts are made in the USA. Not assembled in the US from bolts of fabric cut in Mexico or assembled in the Dominican Republic from US material. There’s a factory in Los Angeles, the people make wages that were even better than North Carolina during its prime. That’s the part that’s critical, the money stays here and helps fellow Americans.
Now I’m not going to divert off on to some political tangent, I promised that with this blog. I’m just being a whore endorsing AA because they make a good product (after two years, I still have the majority of the shirts in usuable shape). I think they’re still offering free shipping if you buy over $100 worth of stuff. They also have a big selection of colors. I went a little crazy this time since my core ones are still doing okay, you’ll probably see them over the next few weeks.
Check ’em out. If you don’t like ’em. I’ll even pay you back for half of any reasonably priced T-shirt.
