Somara’s late (or early) Christmas present from FAO Schwarz was left at our door last night: her official Jim Henson Muppet Whatnot (fancy term for an extra). I was very impressed with it. Hers was certainly better made than the Playskool Bert my parents gave me in the Seventies.
Currently, the Muppet is locked away in Somara’s former office (gradually being turned into the library, delayed by illness) so it won’t be covered in cat fur. What the Muppet’s name is will be determined at a later date but Somara has given me permission to have another contest like we did for our cat Kuroneko. This one will go down differently:
- Somara will still name the Muppet what she wants. It is her gift from me.
- Somara will choose the best name given though and I will cover the reward. Last time it was $20 worth of Wii points so the value will remain around that.
- The contest begins as soon as I post (around Friday night, 5/29/09, 11 PM CDT) and runs for one week (ending at 11:59 PM CDT, 6/5/09). The winner will be chosen over the next weekend.
- All entries must be posted in the Comments part of this story. No e-mails or phone calls will be accepted.
Good luck to you all…who are interested. I’m confident those of you with children will receive numerous suggestions.
Jun 7, 2009 Update: Due to some interest finally happening and a request from Somara, I’m extending the contest to tomorrow night, June 8. It will conclude by 11:59 PM and she will pick a winner. I’ve probably made calls badgering everyone with children to take a stab at this while modifying the site to keep this entry around as I update with others.
OK–I gave her a look. I have to say that the first name that jumped to mind was Blanche. I think it was the glasses and the shirt. We had a neighbor growing up named Blanche Mates. She wore a moo moo, smoked Pall Malls, and had a Brooklyn accent. The kids in our neighborhood used to ding dong ditch her house mercilessly. This muppet reminds me of her. Give her a smoke and a drink and have her say “God dammit, David, get the door!” with a Brooklyn accent and I would be back on Toulone Drive playing kick the can!!
It’s a toss up between Roberta and Gidget. At first glance I thought Roberta, but then the whole Goldie Hawn look from Laugh In made me think Gidget.
Ryanne says Samantha. That’s what she named her doll, too.
Ok – what about Madge? She also kinda reminds me of an old boss of mine named Dorothy- you need a smoke and a drink in her hands too!
