Like me, Leslie came to Austin in the early-to-mid Nineties, however, I didn’t do any cross-dressing on a regular basis.
For those who don’t live in Austin and/or ventured downtown often, Leslie was a well-known homeless guy who wore women’s clothing. I’m not talking about a dress to pass off as a woman; he wore thongs, had a distinctive beard, etc. He certainly drew attention which was his goal by my guess. Leslie was also a perennial candidate for mayor.
In short, Leslie was a partial embodiment of my adopted home’s campaign to stay weird.
