The 12th Doctor, seems OK

The frenzy over who got the role was about as meaning as anything the English royal family does. So I’ll try to contain my glee even though this TV show has done more for the world than a bunch of inbred welfare recipients who aren’t the Bush Family.

After two relatively young guys, I’m surprised they’ve returned to an older-looking gentleman. I’m cool with the choice of Peter Capaldi. According to the Guardian, he is the first actor with an Oscar® to play the character. Must be for supporting actor because I’ve never heard of him. Then again, Patrick Stewart was nobody until he was Captain Picard despite being Gurney Hallack in Dune or Guinevere’s father in Excalibur.

As for all the whiners about the BBC not going with a woman or a non-White. I’m not disappointed over the latter. I think they’ll get there eventually since the character has gained global appeal. Regardless of his skin color, I think the actor should be from the UK. As for the Doctor being a woman, really? Some traditions are best left alone. Female Time Lords are fine, maybe even a spinoff, but it would be as lame as Spock or McCoy being “re-imagined” as women. Starbuck was a big gamble and that only worked due to Katee Sackoff’s talents, otherwise it would’ve a failed, desperate plea for attention.

Looking forward to seeing the Christmas special when the Doctor regenerates.
