A landmark birthday for a signature cartoon character. I regret not having anything bigger for him but I think the first fly-by of Pluto and more urgent matters in my life give me a pass. The Time-Warner Empire on the other hand has no excuse.
Maybe they’re saving it all up for the latest reboot I’ve read on rumor sites. I loved the more recent The Looney Tunes Show which took a SitCom approach; Bugs and Daffy living as themselves with other characters as neighbors or co-workers. They still kept certain traits we’re familiar with over the years: Daffy is lazy, irresponsible; Bugs is clever, well-liked; Yosemite Sam is ill-tempered, etc. The musical interludes were somewhat out of character with the show’s tone alongside the CG-based Coyote v. Roadrunner shorts.
The Looney Tunes franchise needs someone with a real vision beyond monetizing the characters through video games, shirts and diapers. People aren’t interested in cartoon characters that lack personality and/or have lame-ass stories. Bugs and the gang need a Craig McCracken or the second coming of Chuck Jones to put them on the right track. Otherwise, I fear WB will just keeping repeating these futile restarts with yet another Zack Snyder type at the helm.
