Overall, I really don’t give two shits about them since the people who do the voting suffer from a huge disconnect from just about everybody. It’s not that they often give the award to movies that are often boring and/or pretentious (anything Woody Allen has done since 1980), it’s the majority of the selections were only recently in theaters. As if the voting members have the memory of a goldfish. Well-made movies don’t exist between February to November?
There used to be an upside. When we had cable, TCM would do 31 Days of Oscar which was a non-stop month-long marathon of the winners. However, they showed mostly fantastic movies because it won some technical, screenplay, etc. award. Not necessarily Best Picture or the ego-stroking actor/actress crap.
