I sent him an e-mail yesterday as part of my usual correspondence routine and I rudely forgot that today is his birthday. Practically not a day goes by when I don’t miss Doc (his nickname) for his part in bringing me to Austin in 1994. My life didn’t take a turn for the better immediately but he laid down the foundation to get me to build up the life I have now.
Things are going pretty well for him over at his job in Knoxville. Hopefully, he’ll have some vacation time to fly or drive down with Masami to visit. I still can’t convince him to move back here because his current position with the university is decent, he likes to be close to his mother as she has grown older and I think he’s still building a house of his own.
If you know him, drop him a line and wish him well. If you don’t, you still should, Doc has done much for me besides getting me the starting gig with University Towers.
