Where have I been lately now?

No, we haven’t left for Vegas yet and Ike had no effect on us…unless you count the hundreds of evacuees Austin took in. We didn’t even get any of the rain! Somehow, it hit the Houston-Galveston area and then hooked East.

While Ike was gobbling up our nation’s short attention span, I kicked off my vacation which officially started at the end of my shift Saturday evening. Finally! I thought it would never come when I booked it 60 days earlier.

Earlier last week Somara contracted a cold. She did everything to prevent it from flowering into a debilitating situation, aka missing work because she is a temp with no benefits. We both took efforts to keep me from picking it up too, no dice. I had some of her symptoms Saturday morning, namely the sore throat and congestion which coincided with the temperature drop Central Texas is experiencing.

Being on vacation, I dropped into low gear for Sunday and Monday. Naps, fluids, eating (I don’t know why but my congestion eases when I’m stuffing my face) and watching DVDs. This put writing on the back burner because it’s hard to concentrate when you’re not feeling at least 90% or better mentally. It also explains why these “backdated” stories have appeared on Picayune. Previous drafts were written and I already achieved my 1000-post mark so I’m not shooting for a record. Besides, other blog solutions let you choose the posting times. Unlike stock options, no one is harmed by fudging the dates on their personal movie reviews or why Obama is a secretly a Muslim (right, and Weird Al Yankovic is Jewish).

I also wanted to get myself closer to 100% for my second appointment with the doctor treating my anxiety-depression. It’s not cheap to miss seeing him but worth every minute if I make it. He explained why grapefruit juice was a problem with the medication; not like I drink it, I hate grapefruit except in Squirt (an uncommon soft drink, coke, soda or pop; your pick, I’m neutral in the name war). When I told him about my dizzy spells from the medication as the label warned, he said I was in the affected ten-percent minority. Great! I can only hope those odds carry over to Vegas. The visit gave me a decent sense of well being though. My blood tests came back great which eliminates biological causes yet the anxiety scores on the quizzes yielded similar results from a month ago. My anxiety’s emphasis remains, it just shifted its manifestations. Should’ve studied! He closed with a prescription for sleeping pills due insomnia returning; I’ve been waking up at 3 AM with little explanation. Stinks too. Makes me pass out around 8 PM if I’m not physically busy or I get into a relaxed situation. Mark B our current DM knows it all too well. I am hoping the sleeping medication is short lived. Now I will make my friends stop worrying over an Owen Wilson situation since they’ll think I’ll have an accident a la Heath Ledger. I promise never to go near an Olsen Twin! I have been listening to the new album by the Watson Twins but I still wouldn’t be concerned.
