Operation: Alexandria Week 9, 10 & 11

Sadly there’s nothing big to report since progress has slowed due to illness but we did get some inspiration tonight while at Costco…they finally had those 26″ Vizio LCD displays which are compatible with our MacBooks! More on those another day since I had to resist the urge to buy at least one.

Week 9 was the only one which had any movement and there’s nothing really worth showing on the page.

  • Somara didn’t have much opportunity due to a cake order she needed to work on. I think it was the Star Wars cake which went over well with our friend Mark and his family.
  • I however, started one of the bigger undertakings of this: re-organizing my D&D minis. There must a couple thousand of these damned little pieces of plastic.

What is the plan with them now? Originally, I used to organize them by type according to the game. This became rather impractical over the years. Now they’re put into particular bins by alphabetical order as per the Monster Manual series of rulebooks. Phew! This is going to take a while with several trips to the Container Store. Some lack any decent classification too. I’m sure I can figure it out after 28 years of playing (more on this in another story I’m waiting to finish and clear with my sensei). Anyone who is interested in them, I will be shedding a few which serve no purpose or use.

Week 10 was derailed by my illness and a minor fight in which I admitted I would blame Somara for no progress because her former office is the room we need to vacate first. It will be the Library.

Week 11 got trashed by Somara’s turn to be sick courtesy of what I had. Being the newly promoted breadwinner, I stayed out of the house to concentrate on errands and paperwork to tackle.

We plan to really double our efforts on Week 12.

  • I will be seeing Dr. Custer this upcoming Monday. I want to give a decent progress report on his SPACE strategy.
  • Those 26″ Vizio displays cost half as much as Apple’s equivalent solution and that’s our plan for our Office. Mac Life‘s review did warn the readers about them needing to be heavily re-calibrated out of the box. No problem there. They’re also HD TVs without the capability to receive incoming broadcasts. Who cares! Terresterial-based television general blows. If we can hook up the PS3 and Wii to it for Blu-Ray movies from time to time, I think it can be a decent surrogate until we land our dream 47″ Vizio TV.
  • While picking up the mail tonight, there was a flyer for the nearby Floor & Decor Outlet store. One of our long-term plans is to tear out the lousy carpeting the house has. I chose the cheapest stuff when it was being constructed thinking we could replace it later. Neither of us anticipated it going to crap as quickly as it did. The major litmus test will be finding out which “hard” flooring solution is impervious to cat whiz; Nemo is always the number-one suspect since 2005 thanks to his “I miss Somara” protest ritual.

I promise, there will be progress or we don’t get to see the movie Up and those awesome displays.
