Most people my age recognize him as Chief Inspector Dreyfus, the poor boss of Inspector Clouseau from the original and far superior Pink Panther movies. As a kid, his insane antics were on par with Peter Sellers, probably due to his past as a heavy. In the last decade I stumbled upon him as Captain Nemo while watching Mysterious Island on TCM; this was a staple on Family Classics on WGN up to the Seventies.
Lom’s obit reminded me that he was also in Hopscotch, a rather clever spy flick with Walter Mattheu and Ned Beatty; check it out on Netflix streaming, I guarantee this. I hadn’t seen The Dead Zone since high school so I utterly forget him being Walken’s therapist.
Meanwhile, I need to check out the original The Ladykillers to see his first team up with Sellers and only with Sir Alec Guinness.
