1994: Austin arrival

Has it been 19 years already? Yikes! I remember the day I showed up so clearly too. I had spent the night in Garland (‘burb of Dallas), took my time getting ready for the final leg of the trip, saw the Sixth Floor exhibit, made my assessment on the grassy knoll and then called my former employer to leave a message from Colonel X; I had a co-worker he was seriously into the JFK movie. After a quick lunch I was on my way via I-35 E and in Austin by 2:30 PM as it was drizzling.

Technically I left Austin for about a year to work in Raleigh but I consider the time away an extended assignment, better than calling it what I prefer, a huge mistake. During the whole time my heart was in Austin. I counted down the days until my lease ended and I could split. Ergo it’s easier to say I’ve lived here for 19 years.

I’ll probably put something bigger together in 2014 to celebrate 20 years like I did with ten years. I need to find that material, I have the pictures.
