Stray cats weaseling their way into my heart (and home) didn’t begin with Miette, it was Mongo but this little stinker was too sweet to give up for adoption.
Originally I was going to name her Lily to keep the Blazing Saddles theme Somara and I started with Mongo. However I don’t like to give animals “human” names; Molly was already named by the previous owners so I kept it.
During the first couple years, Miette was rather reluctant to be a cuddlier. She liked her space. I received numerous scratches on my forearms cradling her. Then one evening before bed, Miette began her routine of hoping up on me for some attention. We’ve been pretty inseparable any time I sit on the couch or lie down.
Today my cat is 75 in human years yet there’s no signs of Miette slowing down. She’s still very spry, playful and attentive. She does have a thyroid problem which makes her frequently hungry. The medication has slowed the process while we continue to (try) fatten the gray comet with canned food. Unfortunately, it has given Nemo a taste for the stinky wet stuff. Kuroneko and Isis are indifferent; they’ll eat it if they find it but dry is cool, just not Nemo the Spoiled.
I hope Miette keeps on going for another few years. She is a loving, loyal and amusing cat. After numerous cuts and attempts, she now loves to be cradled like a baby. So much that Miette will burrow her face into your chest while purring loudly.
