The D&D version of Myers Briggs personalities

Lately I’ve been learning all about that Myers Briggs jazz regarding communication styles and how they relate to the different personalities around the world. It was part of some recent training I took in April.

Then it got me reminiscing over something Lester photocopied and shared around the GDW offices. I thought it was written by the prolific/opinionated Greg Porter but turns out, I was wrong. The author never did anything I ever heard of again. Sadly, he also passed away.

The funnier part regarding his article was how a certain inept co-worker bought into the argument too much. He latched on to it as if it were brought down from Mt. Olympus. I read it too with some trepidation (I was somewhat more stubborn in the early Nineties). My takeaway was, “amusing, mostly true with the war and power gamers.” The writer articulated into words many things I felt, it just wasn’t the whole picture, more like some quick stereotypes and generalizations. I do keep its core wisdom in mind.

Thankfully Lester was an excellent teacher, he tempered it with his number-one rule, “if the people playing the game are having a good time, then they’re playing it correctly.”
