Another Austin-related goal off my checklist! After 10 years I went to see our own D-League team. The D stands for Development, not the grade you didn’t want in school although it was a passing mark, ask Dan Quayle and W.
My friend Ayako had a spare ticket to attend because her son performed at the pre-game show, equally interesting. Over the last several seasons, the Spurs transferred playing at the CPC (where my champion Stars reside) which I think was wiser, their old home of the Austin Convention Center seemed weird. Of course, a Friday or Saturday-night game would’ve been awesome thanks to the train line ending there.
Our competitor was the Santa Cruz Warriors. Is it just me or don’t you want to say Banana Slugs instead of Warriors? The Spurs won relatively easily. Their lead had been as high as 15 and the Warriors were only ahead by two a couple times in the last quarter. I haven’t watched much basketball lately since I think some rules were changed or the D-League is used in the same manner as the AHL, they’re experimenting with new ideas. What was different? I always though the accumulation of fouls went by halves, not quarters. The officials actually call traveling too, a turnover violation I thought went extinct after Michael “take five running steps without dribbling” Jordan.
Will I attend another game this season? I’ll try. The number of games they play is rather small compared to the NBA and AHL. The quality of the players’ skill was on par in my estimation. Hell, we even have a guy who went to Harvard.
