This announcement wasn’t a surprise, it was when he’d announce his retirement because I doubt no other AHL team would pick him up. That is the downside of a development league but I’m more than happy to see the team Travis skated with for our first 10 seasons will be honoring him in a couple ways:
- He will be working with the team’s operations division; it’s like being a coach who assists the players develop specific skills.
- The organization will be retiring his number, 23, with a ceremony on October 19 this season!
The above matters are the least they could do for him too. He leads the franchise in numerous scoring records, not a guarantee if you play for the same team over a decade. Travis also won the MVP award during the season the Stars swept everything on our way to winning our first Calder Cup. I look forward to the next stage of his career.
Thanks for everything Travis. Your presence was crucial in getting the Stars to be a successful team and take root in Central Texas for years to come!
