Onward to what will probably be our second full month of being in the Pandemic Shirt Storm so what better Header is there than a Horror movie! May 2020 is also the 40th anniversary of the Friday the 13th series. Now I’m not a fan of teenagers getting laid and then being murdered and mutilated by a goalie-mask wearing killing machine. However, Jason is the franchise which made this subgenre a thing even if it was preceded by Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Psycho. Turns out, Peeping Tom from 1960 is considered to be the flick which started it all. My point is to still celebrate something which is a cultural milestone for better or for worse. We’re living in conditions I would consider worse so why not go with a fiction we can count on not happening.
As for Horror. I prefer the less gorey, more traditional monsters: Dracula, the Invisible Man, Frankenstein’s Monster, etc. These are harder stories to pull off too. I am coming to appreciate Folk Horror through Midsommar but I was always like anything involving Science Fiction and/or Post Apocalyptic subjects.
