Being able to watch The Simpsons without needing a DVD player and/or FX was a big incentive to subscribing to Disney+. However, the streaming playback sucked because they continued follow FX’s policy of zooming in on the first 22 seasons to avoid the vertical black bars on today’s widescreen TVs. This sucked. By cropping out the top and bottom of the picture, various visual jokes were lost.
The Mouse Empire fixed it around late May. Before you start viewing, there’s a preference on The Simpsons home screen in which you can set the show to 4:3 instead of 16:9 to get the proper experience. I for one don’t mind the “gaps.” My brain doesn’t pick up on them anyway. I’m more focused on thinking what debuted 30 years ago is still funny!
