I’m at the half-way point of my day working. Beats being stranded at my parents’ house, bored out of my mind as I spent my teen and college years (sometimes). Other than the gluttonous meal, there wasn’t much else to do back in the Seventies and Eighties. Looking back, I think the last real semi-enjoyable time I had around the holiday was 40 years ago. I managed to read the majority of The Hobbit since cable TV back then was only the VHF channels at Grandma’s house. Not old enough to have a job. Too young to be entertained by the same means I managed as a little kid. Reading a paperback book was it. Oh, I had no access to a good radio to jam out to the latest hits Bloomington-Normal’s FM station had to offer.
Back to The Hobbit, given how much fun and exciting this novel was to digest, I find it hard to believe the same author then penned the laborious Lord of the Rings trilogy, they’re a chore to read. Even stuff I had been assigned in school was less boring and tedious to get through.
Enjoy your holiday because we all know what’s next in Amerika, our true National Holiday…Black Friday. Get ready to see stock footage of people being trampled to save 20 smackers on a bigger TV. What the Peacock+ network called, scenes from the House of Want in their version of Brave New World. I love the uneven brawls between different sects of White Trash. Without Black Friday, you have to hunt down security-camera footage from New Orleans’ Mardi Gras to witness the hilarity.
Fear not, Jennifer has put some food together for us to enjoy after she gets home from her job too. I promise to only have one round.
