Three cheers for Uno! Suck it toy poodles & border collies!

Hard to believe the winner was a “regular” dog instead of those useful, weird or annoying breeds. Then again, I don’t really follow the pet pageant silliness on cable; just means ESPN is desperate to fill time. It’s still cool to see a beagle get crowned because:

  • They’re fun, lovable dogs.
  • Our former neighbors across the street had one that was really friendly.
  • Snoopy is another famous one despite his odd coloring (only black and white).
  • My former roommate Chris had a very overweight beagle named Molly.
  • And finally, the young hero from the movie Cats & Dogs, Lou, is a beagle.

Think about this, no one has ever been mauled by one nor were any found at Michael Vick’s disgusting operation.

Now don’t take this the wrong way. I am never going to own a dog. Our cats would despise him/her, especially the cold, wet nose poking them in their butts. Dogs also can’t be left alone for even a day due to their toilet issues which is another problem I have with them; the backyard would automatically become a minefield of dog poop. Unless I became as discourteous as many residents of my neighborhood, let my dog go in everyone else’s yard and public sidewalk since IQ tests aren’t given when it comes to pet ownership.

Anyway, I wanted to plug Uno and cheer him on because he’s also a resident of the Austin area. Can’t you tell by his bark? The slight twang and the “I’ll tell you whut” look in his face. What’s next for the champ? Probably a walk in Zilker Park, dinner at the Shady Grove and a swim at Hippie Hollow; he’s already naked so he doesn’t mind.
