Blech Monday

My apologies in advance if I come off a little irritable for a while. Last week was a bit exhausting: hockey, Geeks Who Drink (came in fifth!), Somara’s recent health issues and co-workers deserving the fist-of-death.

As Friday rolled in, I was pretty excited about the weekend. I had a fantastic Saturday ready with a nice, take-it-easy Sunday.

  • Get up, run at least a mile on the treadmill.
  • Drop Somara off at work.
  • Hit the Starbucks on 6th and Lamar. Drink coffee, do the books and listen to my favorite weekly podcast…On the Media.
  • Pick up my special order at Waterloo Records, The Princess Bride soundtrack.
  • Have lunch and socialize with fellow alumni at Third Base to watch Marquette.
  • Pick up Somara from work.
  • Drive to College Station to spend the night and celebrate birthday Sunday.

What a great Saturday! I could’ve even written a couple stories for Picayune, namely my next installment on the DC reboot.

Alas, it went all down the crapper Friday evening with the weather. Temperatures were going to hover near freezing. With a little negotiating, Somara gave me permission to let Buttercup stay in the garage and I bundled up. It was all to no avail, I awoke Saturday morning with congestion and a sore throat.

@#$%!

If there weren’t any travel plans and/or children to infect, I would’ve risked enjoying the other parts of the day. Instead, I took it easy, stayed home since we only own one car, slept, cleared pieces of the Netflix queue (American Dad is quite superior to Family Guy which isn’t hard to beat), petted all five cats in my life and had the weekend slip right by. It’s as if the two practically never happened.

Maybe this week will pass pretty smoothly thanks to Valentine’s Day and our Princess Bride feast tickets. It ends with back-to-back hockey games. I find hockey, even when my team loses, makes a rotten day end on a better note. I’m taking Friday off to guarantee it.
