Wallace Shawn is 70 today…INCONCEIVABLE!

A great comedic actor who will be best remembered as Vizzini celebrates his birthday. To a younger generation he’s the voice of Rex from Toy Story, to others the teacher Alicia Silverstone helps find love in Clueless (aka Emma of the Nineties).

I want to share several other films Wallace had memorable roles in that I want to share:

  • Gossip columnist Oiseau from a very funny art-house movie called The Moderns; it’s about the ex-patriates living in Paris around 1926.
  • A fire-and-brimstone Catholic priest from Heaven Help Us. Although a brief appearance, he gave an amusing speech about how the Church feared the Soviets during the early Sixties.
  • The Grand Negus Zek, the ruler of the Ferengi in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, I think the character fell in love with Quark’s mother in later episodes.
