Last week, Nevada landed the so-called Tesla Gigafactory to produce batteries after Elon Musk successfully played multiple states off each other to subsidize his ego. Texas probably lost out due to the power of its car dealerships, they have a powerful lobby with The Laboratory for Bad Ideas, aka the state legislature. For those who didn’t know, it’s against the law to sell new cars directly to customers as Tesla does.
Ergo the new jerbs go to a state which favors the mindset of the Cyberselfish Libertarian crowd that conveniently forgets how their obscene fortunes came at the expense of taxpayer subsidies. The difference between the Cyberselfish and the Libertarian Apologists (writers for the Economist and Cato Institute purists) are their stances on corporate welfare…I mean, incentive packages. Nevada is now on the hook for what may be as much as $3 billion meaning they ponied up $500,ooo a jerb. I guess I better lose big at the table games during my upcoming Vegas vacation.
The day when Americans finally realized they’re getting screwed will never come. It’s hard to convince certain factions…ahem! Teabaggers!…how we’re one nation, not 50. In another recent example, Texas poached a slew of Toyota jobs from California, New York and Kentucky. Goodhair claimed he “created” several thousand jerbs. For those of us who earned better than a D at Math knew what bullshit his claim was. No Goodhair, you bribed Toyota to move them from several places, not created plus they will likely pay less as the car manufacturer tells the survivors how much “lower” the cost of living is in Dallas and Texans receive a $10 million bill which could’ve gone toward schools or infrastructure.
