Augmented Reality Scavenger Hunt

Yesterday, I got to participate in a scavenger hunt that utilized Augmented Reality when it came to finding clues to move on to the next destination. This was done for my friend Ebeth’s birthday celebration up at the Domain. Despite the hot Austin weather, I really enjoyed it and was fascinated by how it all worked.

We were divided up into three teams of three. Each team received an iPad, a BlueTooth connected speaker and a little coaster. As we came upon the destinations via Apple Maps, the coaster would get put on the ground and we’d point the iPad’s camera at it. Often a little goblin (it resembled a leprechaun to me) or puzzle appeared to tell what to do, then we’d move on to the next spot.

The winner wasn’t determined by who solved everything first. It was based upon who solved everything with the least number of hints.

I also discovered that the Archer Hotel has excellent pizza from our snack/drink break.

This making me even more excited about the upcoming AR sets from LEGO!
