Ian will be remembered by me for all the support characters he provided to numerous favorite movies of mine. The duplicitous science officer Ash in Alien, the rival restaurant owner Pascal in Big Night, Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings, greedy head chef Skinner from Ratatouille and the Catholic priest Cornelius helping the hero in The Fifth Element. He definitely didn’t play a type, he was Ian but he was the character you wanted to learn more about. Personally, I don’t recall seeing him in any movie I disliked which is a pretty tough feat to pull off.
