Another Sci-Fi and Fantasy icon lost. Rutger was really the actor who made Blade Runner the memorable movie it was since Harrison Ford was just phoning it in. The film’s surprise ending with Roy’s speech is one of Sci-Fi’s greatest moments too. My other favorite is Ladyhawke because he got to play the cursed hero using Matthew Broderick as the bridge to defeat an evil bishop with Michelle Pfeiffer. Beyond that, I think Rutger was often cast as the heavy or main villain like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Batman Begins or The Hitcher.
Thanks for everything Rutger! Thanks to you, Roy Batty and Navarre will live on as key characters of the Eighties.
